Jake Jenkinson, adult care apprentice

Jake Jenkinson talks about his experience and why he chose an apprenticeship in adult care.
Jake Jenkinson

“I chose to apply for an apprenticeship with Derbyshire County Council as I was changing my profession and wanted to establish the best possible foundation to develop a successful career. The apprenticeship scheme allowed me to train and study towards the qualification that I need to get the job that I want, while still taking home a wage.

The apprenticeship scheme has suited me really well and in a very short space of time I have met a lot of different people who work in all aspects of adult care through my apprenticeship training. I think this has helped  develop my understanding of the bigger picture and the opportunities that are out there. I have found that if you want to succeed there are people there to help you achieve your goals and support is there when you need it.

I’m currently working towards NVQ Level 2 in Adult Social Care and am planning on continuing my studies with the Level 3 Diploma afterwards. I would recommend the scheme to people who are just starting their working lives as well as people who already have an established career and are looking for a change, because the experience and the qualifications that you gain from it will definitely hold you in good stead for the future.”
