"I've never really been interested in going to university so when it came to leaving school I went straight into work. I found that I had got as far as I could working within hospitality so decided I needed a fresh start. I looked into a few options, for example, Open University and college. However, I felt I needed to work to earn a wage to support myself and my young son. I had previously attended an information session provided by Derbyshire County Council offering careers advice and guidance who signposted me to potential apprenticeship opportunities.
"I was extremely interested in the apprenticeships that Derbyshire county council had to offer as I could work full time and also achieve a qualification. I looked on the website and saw a Level 3 Business Admin Apprenticeship available and applied immediately. Within a couple of weeks of applying I had had my interview and then confirmation of my posting at Clay Cross Adult Education Centre.
"I've worked for Derbyshire County Council at the Clay Cross Ace for 9 months, and during this time I have been given many opportunities allowing me to showcase my abilities. As soon as I started I felt a part of the team and now welcome the trust that my colleagues have in me.
"I would definitely recommend an apprenticeship as I believe they offer many opportunities and allow you to get a good start in the world of work”.
