"I was at a crossroads in my life, in terms of how I wanted to progress with my career and education when I saw an advertisement for the Derbyshire County Council Apprenticeship scheme.

"I had previously tried university but found that it wasn't for me so I made the choice to start a Business Administration Apprenticeship with the council. The reason being, I wanted to enter the workplace whilst also developing new skills and broadening my knowledge. I have found the work place based learning of the apprenticeship to be more fulfilling and rewarding than classroom based learning.

"Every day is different, I am always kept interested and challenged with new tasks and opportunities for learning are plentiful. Working alongside helpful colleagues with a wealth of knowledge and experience, alongside my studies, is allowing me to hone the practical work based skills I will need to achieve success in the real world.

"There are lots of options for progression in the authority and I hope to secure a permanent role with the council at the end of my apprenticeship and then continue to progress with my career from there."
