Terms and conditions to apply for a temporary Traffic Regulation Order

The following terms and conditions must be complied with by the applicant and/or any contractor responsible for any part of the works. These are in addition to wider responsibilities identified within the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and the Traffic Management Act 2004.


  1. The applicant (and their temporary traffic management contractor) will be responsible for signing the diversion route and / or any temporary restrictions, and will be responsible for maintaining all necessary signs. The applicant (and / or their temporary traffic management contractor), should submit the plan(s) showing details of their signing scheme and diversion route signing, no later than three weeks before commencement date of the Temporary Traffic Regulation Order, so that it can be approved.

    All signs should be compliant with the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions.

    Plans relevant to works within High Peak Borough Council, Derbyshire Dales District Council, North East Derbyshire District Council, Chesterfield Borough Council and Bolsover District Council areas should be emailed to david.bailey@derbyshire.gov.uk Plans relevant to works within Amber Valley District Council, Erewash Borough Council, and South Derbyshire District Council areas should be emailed to wendy.harby@derbyshire.gov.uk

  2. Note that unless specifically requested, a road closure only applies to vehicles. That is, pedestrians are normally allowed through the road closure. If for health and safety reasons it is necessary to prohibit pedestrians from accessing past the works, this must be made clear in the 'Additional Information' box on the online application form.

  3. Charges will be made for press advertisement of the Temporary Traffic Regulation Order. In addition there will be a charge for the council's administrative expenses. Press advertisement charges vary dependent on the area and location of the works within the county of Derbyshire (and the consequent local newspaper coverage).

  4. It is essential that a valid purchase order number, invoice contact, and invoice address is provided by the applicant on the online application form. (See the Invoice Details section of the online application form). Similarly, all contractor's contact details, and temporary traffic management contractor's details, need to be provided on the application form.
