The centre is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm.
Our service delivery in the Blackwell area is from Woburn House, Blackwell. This is a Bolsover District Council sheltered housing complex where we have use of the community room each Monday and Friday. The facilities are all on ground floor level, and have full wheelchair access.
The groups managed here are social groups for people with higher physical and social needs. Bathing is also available at this venue.
Transport is used which is appropriate for wheelchair users.
Mondays are for social needs, while Fridays are for a dedicated dementia group.
The geographical areas covered would include Tibshelf, Newton, Westhouses, Hilcote, Blackwell and parts of South Normanton. The centre's office is based here, in flat 11.
This is located within Jubilee Court, Pinxton which is another Bolsover District Council sheltered housing complex. We have sole use of their community room for our Thursday group and use of a smaller room each Tuesday and Wednesday for our dementia groups.
Tuesdays and Wednesdays are dedicated groups for people with a diagnosed dementia. We have links with the Alzheimer's Society, and the group's emphasis is around maintaining skills and socialising. On Thursdays we manage a social group for people with high physical and social needs.
The area covered by this base include Pinxton and parts of South Normanton.
The Post Mill, South Normanton
We use a room here each Wednesday to run a social group. Lunch is served in the cafe and members have access to the patios and garden. This group is a new development that has enabled us to provide a service in a new area. It is a weekly social group for people with higher physical and social needs.
The Hub Lunch Club
This informal meeting takes place each Friday in The Bistro Cafe at the Hub in South Normanton. Members socialise and play table games. They purchase their own lunch while here. This group is for self managing people, and no charge is made and people are able to self-refer. A worker will attend for a limited time to support the group.
Out 'n' about group
This group has been developed to meet the needs of referred people, who were reluctant to access weekly day care. Once a month we embark on a planned outing. In the past this group have visited:
- McArthur Glen Shopping Outlet
- garden centres
- enjoyed several pub lunches
Most users of this group are male.
All social groups have the opportunity to place orders with the local bakery. Staff collect monies and collect ordered goods, in time for attendees to take home.
We are a highly motivated team of community care workers, day centre assistants and a unit manager. All are qualified in working with older people and all have undertaken dementia training. We are committed to developing practices with other professional services and meeting the needs of local people.
Our emphasis is on individual needs and we have recently developed a new group. After identifying a gap the out 'n' about group is for people that are reluctant to attend traditional services and is not centre based. We hope to develop further services after identifying other gaps.
We also offer one to one support for people in the community. We could be involved in signposting and supporting users to access other local services which are able to meet their needs. This could include activities such as swimming, bowling and shopping.
We try to support carers in a variety of ways to suit their needs.
Regular planning sessions are held in individual groups and activities are planned in consultation with service users.
We work closely with other social care and health professionals, and carers organisations.
Exercise and wellbeing is promoted within all our services. One staff member is a trained chair based exercise leader. We developed and promote the sloppy slipper campaign and hold regular fall awareness sessions.
All groups receive a locally supplied, hot, 2-course, diet appropriate meal.
We achieved the Bronze Standard of the Dignity and Respect Award in 2012, and are working towards reaching Silver Standard. We feel this is a way of measuring the quality service we provide to individuals, and will continue to strive towards excellence.
