Fly-tipping

From a small bag of rubbish to an unwanted mattress or worn-out settee, if rubbish is dumped somewhere without permission it is classed as fly-tipping. Fly-tipping is a crime − help put a stop to it.
No-one likes to see fly-tipping. It looks a mess, can be unsafe and is expensive to clear-up. It's also a crime.
We're working with other councils in Derbyshire and the Environment Agency to help put a stop to fly-tipping in the county.
Report fly-tipping
You can help us put a stop to fly-tipping in Derbyshire.
If you spot any fly-tipping, see rubbish being dumped or know someone who is doing it, don't confront them. Contact Call Derbyshire on tel: 01629 533190.
It would be helpful if you could also tell us:
- the registration number and description of the tippers' vehicle such as the colour, make and model
- what the tippers look like
- what sort of rubbish was being dumped
- a detailed description of where it was being dumped.
And don't forget, to avoid fly-tipping use a registered waste carrier or take any household rubbish to our recycling centres
Fines and prosecution
Offenders can, and will, be prosecuted. Once they're caught it could mean a fine of up to £50,000 or 12 months in prison.
But that's not all. Did you know that if your rubbish is fly-tipped you could also be prosecuted − even if you didn't dump it or know it was going to be dumped.
To make sure you stay on the right side of the law − and avoid a fine of up to £5,000 − use a registered waste carrier if you've got rubbish that needs removing.
You can find one near you by going to the Environment Agency website (opens in a new window) or tel: 03708 506 506. Or take any household rubbish to our recycling centres
