Household waste recycling centres

Find out the locations, opening times and general information about all our household waste recycling centres.

Our household waste recycling centres are open 7 days a week and residents are free to visit any day now our odd/even number plate system is no longer in place. But sites are still expected to be busy and you may still have to queue. You can read about the restriction easing at our recycling centres.

Some measures remain in place at all of our sites so that users and staff can stick to social distancing rules to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

You can now take the full range of waste we accept at our sites

Help us to help you stay safe

 Be prepared to queue

Fewer vehicles than usual will be allowed on-site at any one time to allow for social distancing. Please be prepared to queue or return at a quieter time if the sites are busy.

Social distancing, wear protective gloves, appropriate footwear and clothing

Keep 2 metres from others on site, especially on ramps and near skips. Staff will not be able to help you carry your waste as they normally would so it's important to stay safe. Handrails and other surfaces which you may touch at our sites will be cleaned regularly but please remember to wash your hands when you get home.

Vans and trailers

Drivers can visit with vans weighing up to 3.5 tonnes when loaded and trailers up to 2 metres in length to drop off household waste from their own property.

Avoid bringing excessive amounts of waste so we can get people in and out as quickly as possible. It's also a good idea to sort your recycling before you travel to save time when you arrive.

One person per car

Help to reduce the number of people on site by making sure additional passengers remain inside your vehicle unless you need them to help you unload your waste. Please make sure children and pets remain in your car at all times.

There's no pedestrian access onto any of our sites so please remain in your car and stay at least 2 metre away from other when you're on-site.

The layout of some of our sites may have changed and use of ramps and skips is limited to one person at a time. If in doubt, ask a member of staff.

Stay at home if you have coronavirus symptoms

Please don't use our sites if you've had coronavirus symptoms in the last 14 days, you're self-isolating or at high risk of contracting the virus.

Our 9 sites are located in:

Derby City Council also operates a site on Raynesway Park Drive just off the A5111 Raynesway. Different restrictions are in place at this site and some types of vehicle may need a permit.

Opening times

All our centres open from 8.30am to 6pm daily. Please do not turn up early to queue.

Customer care

We're working hard to provide a recycling centre service under difficult conditions and doing all we can to make sure your visit runs as smoothly as possible. In return we ask that you please follow the safety guidance and treat our staff with respect.

Please do not leave any waste outside our recycling centres. This is classed as fly-tipping and you could be fined up to £50,000 or 12 months in jail.

All our waste recycling sites have a mobile defibrillator, in an emergency please ask a site attendant for assistance.

Smoking is not permitted on site.

If you require further information about access for disabled people email or tel: 01629 538120.

Your waste

All waste delivered to our centres is separated and sorted. This makes sure that as much waste as possible goes for reuse or recycling.

Reusing items is the best way environmentally for dealing with waste before recycling and composting. Items for reuse may go for resale through a variety of outlets including charities and other markets.

If waste can't be reused, recycled or composted, it goes for disposal.

If you have any concerns about your waste being treated in this way, please speak to one of the site attendants who will carefully deal with any items of a personal nature.

There are some types of waste that we cannot accept in any circumstances. Trade waste is not accepted.

Please make sure that all personal data is removed from electrical items such as PCs, laptops, smart TVs, mobile phones, tablets and sat navs.

What else can you do

Please use your kerbside collection run by your local district or borough council as you normally would.

See our tips to help you minimise your waste.

If your items still have some life left in them you could try selling them online or compost garden waste at home.

Soil improver

We have temporarily suspended the sale of soil improver at all our recycling centres while social distancing measures are in place.
