In the future we will be designated as the SuDS Approval Body (SAB) for Derbyshire. This role is expected to be implemented in mid- to late-2013 as the exact role of the SAB is still being confirmed.
What is likely is that we, as the SuDS Approval Body for Derbyshire, will evaluate and approve SuDS in all new developments.
Planners and developers will be under a legal obligation to consider SuDS for new developments. The automatic right for new developments to connect to surface water sewers will be removed, unless the developer has prior consent from the SAB.
After these considerations, developers and planners will be required to submit an application outlining their proposed SuDS design to the SuDS Approval Body.
If a SuDS design is approved by the SAB and the system serves more than one property we, as the SuDS Approval Body, will be required to adopt that drainage system. Under the requirements of the adoption, we will maintain the system and be responsible for its continued successful operation.
We are still awaiting clear guidance from DEFRA regarding the exact details of our duty as the SuDS Approval Body.
The introduction here serves as an approximate indication of our future role and we will endeavour to update this information when firm guidance is set out by DEFRA.
