Booking an education improvement course

When booking an education improvement course, you will need to be aware of the following.

Finding a course

Courses offered by the education improvement service can be found on the Derbyshire services for schools (opens in a new window). Please select the training and events tab before selecting 'Advisory Service' under the provider filter.

Applications

Please quote the course title and course date when applying. Quoting the course venue will help with the course search.

Course fees will be taken from detail code 313380, except academies or those schools who operate a cheque book system for which they will then receive an invoice.

Confirmation and replies to applications

We reply to all applications. Please do not assume application equals confirmation. Numerous automatic emails from the training system will also be sent to the delegate to confirm a place on the course.

Every effort will be made to ensure you are accommodated on your chosen courses. Where courses are over-subscribed it may be necessary to repeat them on an alternative date and/or venue

If you have not had confirmation or cancellation of your place, please contact the course and conference team tel: 01629 532796.

Cancellation charges

If you cancel a booking 28 days or more in advance of the course start date then you will not be charged. You will be charged 50% if you cancel between 27 and 15 days prior to the start date. Finally if you cancel your place within 14 days or less of the start date then you will be charged the full course fee.

For invitation and fully funded courses, establishments will be charged administration and venue costs in respect of staff failing to attend and who have not cancelled their booking at least a week prior to the event date.

We will accept cancellations by phone but all cancellations must be confirmed by email.

Cancellations received before the closing date for applications will have no charge.

If we cancel a course prior to the date, no fee will be charged. If the course is cancelled on the day of the course, no fee will be charged.

If in adverse weather conditions a course is cancelled, no fee will be charged and every effort will be made to provide advance notice of cancellation. If the course is not cancelled the fee remains payable.

If a course is rescheduled owing to unforeseen circumstances we will:

  • offer a revised arrangement
  • offer a full refund if the revised arrangement is not acceptable.

There are some occasions when courses do not recruit sufficient participants and are cancelled by us. Schools will not incur any charges for these.

Where any training event is cancelled the local authority will not be held responsible for the reimbursement of any additional costs incurred by the school, including the cost of employing supply teaching or non-teaching. Such additional costs will be met by the school.

Equal opportunities and accessibility

In pursuit of our equal opportunities policy, every effort is being made to ensure proper access and facilities are available in our chosen venues.

If you have any specific requirements, for example, wheelchair access or hearing loop, please tell the course administrator when booking your place.

Special dietary requirements

Where lunches are provided, please tell the course administrator if you have any special dietary requirements.
