Schools' admission arrangements 2017/2018

The admission arrangements for maintained schools in Derbyshire have been determined for the 2017/18 school year.


Admission arrangements for community and voluntary controlled schools 2017/2018

There are no changes to the general admission arrangements for community and controlled schools in Derbyshire other than:

  • changes to key dates in the admissions process for 2017/2018 which are set out in the coordinated scheme
  • changes to a number of published admission numbers.

Changes to published admission numbers

There are changes to the school Published Admission Numbers (PANs) listed below. In line with recommendations from the Office of the Schools Adjudicator and following consultation there are also revised sixth form PANs for community and controlled schools.

  • Darley Churchtown CE Primary School - reduce from 20 to 15 
  • Cavendish Junior − reduce from 50 to 30
  • Somerlea Park Junior − reduce from 70 to 60
  • Aldercar High School − reduce from 182 to 120
  • Glossopdale Community College − 360 to 200
  • Lea Primary School − reduce 20 to 17
  • Wirksworth Junior School − reduce from 65 to 45
  • Marlpool Junior School − reduce from 47 to 40
  • Little Eaton Primary School − reduce from 40 to 30
  • Clowne Infant School − increase from 80 to 90
  • Clowne Junior School − increase from 80 to 90
  • Creswell Infant School − increase from 60 to 80
  • Longmoor Primary School − increase from 50 to 60
  • Whitwell primary School − increase from 34 to 40
  • Renishaw Primary School − increase from 27 to 30
  • Woodville Infant School − increase from 75 to 90
  • Glebe Junior School − increase from 102 to 108
  • Whaley Bridge Primary − reduce from 36 to 30
  • Park infant and Nursery School − reduce from 70 to 60.

All other PANs remain as published in the 2016/2017 arrangements.

All of these changes are in line with revised net capacity assessments.

In other respects the admission arrangements for community and controlled schools are unchanged from those published for 2016/2017.

Coordinated admission arrangements

There are no significant changes to the coordinated admissions scheme other than to bring forward relevant dates into the 2017/2018 admission rounds. The coordinated admissions scheme is attached to this page.

Fair access protocol

There are no changes to the fair access protocols which reflect the most recent Department for Education (DfE) advice and other national and local changes such as:

  • DfE advice that children should be admitted within seven calendar days of nomination
  • new school inspection categories
  • the inclusion of children formerly in care who have been adopted
  • reference to education health and care plans
  • reference to the virtual school for children in care.

Objections must include the name and address of the person or body making the objection.

Objections that may not be referred to the adjudicator

  1. an objection which in substance seeks an alteration to admission arrangements for a grammar school, which by virtue of section 104(4) may only be made in accordance with sections 105 (c) to 109 (d) (altering the school's admission arrangements so that it no longer has selective admission arrangements)

  2. an objection which in substance seeks an alteration to admission arrangements for a selective academy so as to remove selection, which by virtue of its academy; arrangements may only be made in accordance with those academy arrangements

  3. an objection that the admission number has not been changed or has been increased for:

    1. any school whose admission authority is not the local authority, or
    2. an academy
  4. an objection in respect of an increase or no change to the admission number for a community or voluntary controlled school other than an objection by the governing body of that school

  5. an objection to an agreement that the admission arrangements for an academy may vary from the School Admissions Code.

Where the adjudicator has determined an objection to the admission arrangements of a school or academy, no objection may be referred to the adjudicator raising the same or substantially the same issues in relation to those admission arrangements within two years of the decision by the adjudicator.
