English Baccalaureate

The English Baccalaureate was introduced as a measure of school performance in the 2010 performance tables.

It is not a qualification, although the Department for Education are developing a mechanism for issuing certificates to recognise where individual pupils have secured a relevant combination of GCSEs or accredited iGCSEs.

The baccalaureate recognises where pupils have secured a C grade or better across a core of academic subjects – English, mathematics, history or geography, the sciences and a language.

Further details of the qualifications that count towards the English Baccalaureate are attached to this page.
