Apprenticeships offer young people the opportunity to earn while they learn.

They involve both classroom and work-based training, so as well as working for an employer they will spend some time at a college or with a training provider.

It takes between one and three years to complete an apprenticeship.

It usually consists of three main parts:

  • a vocational qualification related to the job
  • functional skills (maths and English)
  • a technical certificate.

After completing an apprenticeship or advanced apprenticeship, it is possible to progress into further professional training or higher education.
