"Four years ago I was knocked off my motorbike and it became clear that I was not going to be able to return to my previous engineering job. I needed to gain new skills and qualifications and the Work Ready course I completed did just that. They helped me get a new job at Chesterfield Royal Hospital."
"For the past two years I have been doing an ITQ level 2 at the Centre (completed). I am now doing text processing which my tutor had suggested to me. I have recently started an English course which my tutor encouraged me to do as I have confidence issues, I was dreading my first class but my tutor made me feel welcome and soon got to know me and the way I work. Since being here I have also gained my food hygiene certificate and am waiting to do my first aid. I feel that I have come on a lot and I feel so much more confident."
"I left school before doing my exams, so I did not get any GCSEs. I started coming to the Adult Education Centre to improve my Maths and English. These courses have really helped me get that bit further into what I want to become. I will hopefully soon be going on to Chesterfield College to do an access to nursing course and that is thanks to this centre. The staff here are excellent they are really helpful. They make it an enjoyable experience and they make it so you want to keep coming back."
"I come from China. I have been England about 10 years. I have two children, a girl 9 years old and a boy 6 years old. I have been learning maths since March 2014 because I need to help my children to do their homework and I can have a certificate when I have done it. This can help me to find a better job. Also I can try to learn English at the same time. I am really enjoying the class. Now I am very happy to say I have ACHIEVED. Thank you every one!"
"The 'high standards' that are expected and gained in this class are an excellent incentive and give me a sense of worth. Being a 'Gold Card' holder, it is especially good to know that I can still 'do it' and wish to work in this vein for as long as possible."
"My teacher is excellent, patient and skilled in her craft. I enjoy this class as it is the only time I have to do something for 'me'. It is a welcome break from work and housework. I get a great feeling of achievement once I have completed a project."
"Following my redundancy, the course tutor has helped me find a new job which I enjoy very much. My thanks to her!"
"Really enjoyed the course I have chosen to do and the teacher is fantastic. I would also like to go onto Level 2 because I have enjoyed doing the course and it's helped me develop my parenting. The Adult Community Education Service has helped me out because I get to learn while having a young child."
