Learning to plaster

Ben Rowley

Our new construction centre in Holmewood supports Ben into a plastering career.

Ben Rowley began his learning with our adult community education service (DACES) in the summer of 2016.

He had scoured the area for months looking for a plastering course. Becoming despondent at the lack of provision, he was delighted when we set up our first construction centre in Holmewood, Chesterfield and he jumped at the opportunity to take the CITB Level 2 plastering diploma.

Ben says:

"I am so happy that I've found this course, the group members support each other and I couldn't wish for a better tutor."

Ben is progressing well through the course and has had to work harder than most. Born with just one hand he worked with our tutor, Cliff Rodgers, to develop a hawk that he could use with his left arm. This has worked extremely well and Ben has had no problems in keeping up with the rest of the group. In fact he is proving to be an excellent plasterer.

Cliff says:

"Ben is an inspiration to all of us showing us how hard work, a 'can do' attitude and an ability to think outside the box can result in success."

"I am hoping to work as a self-employed plasterer in the near future" said Ben "and wouldn't have been able to do it without DACES."

Ben is looking forward to taking our 'Being Your Own Boss' course next year to ensure that his new business gets off to a flying start.
