A new lease of life
Last year Natasha Shemilt was unemployed, but after attending several courses with Derbyshire County Council's Adult Community Education Service, she found a full-time job and a whole new lease of life.
Natasha has had various part time jobs in the past but was unemployed when she started a course at the Ashbourne Adult Community Education Centre.
"When I first joined a course I was very unsure and nervous but was soon put at ease".
Natasha's confidence has grown significantly over the last two years as she has completed a number of our courses, including English functional skills, maths functional skills, ITQ level 1 and childcare level 1. Currently, Natasha is working towards GCSE English and GCSE maths.
"Having up to date qualifications on my CV has really helped me find work and has made me feel much more confident in my skills".
Attending Derbyshire Adult Community Education classes has made a real difference to Natasha's belief in her abilities and she has lots of praise for her tutors.
"My maths tutor, Andre Smith, is really good. He explains things well. I found maths difficult at school but in the Adult Community Education class there was plenty of support and help"
"My English tutor, Helen Mellville-White, goes above and beyond, she listens when I need her to and gives me encouragement"
Natasha is now working full time as a support worker(adults with additional needs) whilst she continues with her studies and she is confident that this is just the start of a new life.
