Christmas can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming with all the consumption and waste but it is possible to make Christmas feel a little bit greener with a few small adjustments.
Christmas cards are a wonderful way to keep in touch but did you know that they can’t go into the recycling if they have glitter on? Instead, you could transform them into next year’s gift tags as a wonderful continuation of friendships.
Another way to have a more sustainable Christmas is to make your own gifts. Why not learn a new skill in 2019 so that you can give something created by you next year? We have silver clay courses at several of our centres, these sessions enable you to make a piece of silver jewellery and develop the skills to use at home. Take a look at our courses using our course search.
What about using a scarf or piece of fabric that can be reused to wrap presents, if that doesn’t appeal then using brown paper and decorating it with ribbon and decorations, which can be recycled or even experiment by drying orange slices to add a fragrant touch.
Why not give one of our gift of learning vouchers, we have lots of exciting courses that can help loved ones to live more sustainably such as 'upholstery, patchwork and quilting' and loads of sessions at our hub for sustainability, the Derbyshire Eco Centre. To purchase a gift voucher, contact your local centre.
