Cancellation of Sessions
In the event of bad weather we will endeavour to keep our centres open and classes running where safe and practicable. We will try to keep you informed as much as possible and will attempt to notify you at the earliest opportunity should your class be cancelled, this might be by phone, email and/or text message. If a centre is closed, this will also be posted to snow page and to our Facebook page.
We ask learners not to take unnecessary risks when considering travelling in poor weather conditions. Where a class has to be cancelled, we will endeavour to make alternative arrangements so you do not lose any learning hours, such as adding an additional session to the end of the term or course.
All of our centres are Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant and we provide parking spaces for ‘blue badge’ holders. We make every effort to ensure that our courses can be accessed by those with mobility or physical access needs
Please ensure that you switch of your mobile phones at all times during a session. If, in exceptional circumstances, you are unable to do this please let your tutor or assessor know this before the start of a session and ensure that your phone is on silent mode.
Different parking arrangements are available at different centres. Where possible we provide parking for learners. Otherwise, we can signpost you to other appropriate public parking near to our centres. Please ask in centre for details.
Derbyshire Adult Community Education Service does not accept responsibility for the loss of, or damage to, the personal property of learners whilst attending courses.
Reading lists, textbooks and materials
Your tutor will offer advice in relation to any items you may need to support your studies and it is your responsibility to provide these items. In certain circumstances you may be able to get financial help to meet some of these costs. Ask your tutor or centre staff for further information.
We do not reimburse students who withdraw from a course other than in exceptional circumstances. In these instances we must be notified not less than 14 days before the course starts and a £10 administration charge may be levied. Transfer between courses may be possible at our discretion and again we may charge the £10 administration fee.
Our course fees are based on a minimum number of learners; therefore if we do not reach this level of participants we may cancel a course or ask students to pay extra to enable the course to run. If we are unable to run a course under these circumstances, the service will refund learner fees, or offer a free transfer to another suitable course. We cannot give refunds for student holidays
Derbyshire Adult Community Education Service operates a non-smoking policy inside its centres, outreach venues and surrounding grounds.
