Traineeships are a new Government programme designed to prepare young people for their future careers by helping them to become work-ready.
What does a traineeship involve?
Employers’ needs will be integral to traineeships, they are designed for young people aged 16 to 23 (inclusive) who are interested in getting into work but who may lack the appropriate education or skills.
Each traineeship will provide a young person with essential work preparation training including maths and English, alongside high quality work experience provided by the employer which can last from six weeks up to a maximum of six months.
What are the benefits of traineeships to businesses?
Training costs for traineeships are funded by the Government and employers are not required to pay the individual during the work placement, though businesses are encouraged to support trainees with expenses such as transport and meals. All the company needs to commit to is providing a high quality placement, a job interview if a role becomes available or an exit interview and a reference for the young person upon completion.
