We fund new bus to replace 185 Fairfield to Buxton

Published: 9 December 2022

We are to fund a new service to replace the 185 Fairfield to Buxton after the commercial operator said it would no longer run.

The 185 will stop running on 11 December 2022, with the new service, the Fairfield Connect, starting on 12 December 2022.

The Fairfield Connect will run from Fairfield Centre to Buxton and call at all existing stops to Sylvan Park and Buxton Market Place.

It will run from just after 7am until just before 7pm Monday to Saturday. Buses will be half hourly Monday to Friday, and hourly on Saturdays. There will be no service on Sundays and bank holidays.

Fairfield Connect will not serve Harpur Hill in the same way that the 185 bus did. But passengers can use the Transpeak service which provides an hourly service thorough Harpur Hill via Heath View, Burlow Road and Harpur Hill Road into the town centre.

Those wanting to get from Harpur Hill to Fairfields will be able to use a morning and afternoon service.

Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways Assets and Transport, Councillor Kewal Singh Athwal, said:

“I’m pleased that we are able to put on another service so that those living in Fairfield can still get to the shops and other local facilities.

“This service will run for 9 months so I hope that as many people as possible will use it during this time.”

During the next 9 months we will be actively looking at improving transport links for Buxton and the surrounding areas, and the Fairfield Connect will be part of this review.
