Update on Wingerworth Library refurbishment

Published: 26 August 2022

Users of Wingerworth Library who have borrowed books from there will not have to return them until 1 December 2022 due to ongoing refurbishment works on the building.

The library, based in Wingerworth’s Parish Rooms in New Road, was closed along with the rest of the building in April this year for extensive refurbishment work being carried out by the parish council.

It is hoped that the library will be open at the end of October, depending on the finalising of the work on the building.

Due to this, library users with items borrowed from Wingerworth Library, who were given until the end of September to return their books, have now had that period extended until 1 December.

Books can still be borrowed and returned from other county libraries in the meantime.

Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Strategic Leadership, Culture, Tourism and Climate Change Councillor Barry Lewis said:

“We appreciate library users’ patience while the refurbishment of the building including the library is ongoing and are confident the end result will benefit the community as a whole, offering a modern, fit-for-purpose accessible and inviting environment for everyone to enjoy.”

The opening date of the library will be confirmed in the next few weeks.
