Storytelling opportunity for young people

Published: 1 February 2022

To celebrate National Storytelling Week our library service is launching a creative writing competition for young people.

Your Story – My Story is the theme of the week, which runs from Saturday 29 January to Saturday 5 February 2022.

Libraries are looking for stories of no more than 50 words based on young people’s experiences of their local area and community.

There are 2 age categories: 7 to 11, and 12 to 6, and the prizes will be goodie bags including books for both the winners and runners-up.

The competition launches on Saturday 29 January 2022 and the deadline for entries is Sunday 27 February 2022.

The winning story will be published on our website and social media channels.

Councillor Barry Lewis, Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Strategic Leadership, Culture, Tourism and Climate Change, said:

“This is a wonderful opportunity for young people to get involved in their local library and find out about the brilliant services libraries have to offer them.

“It’s also a chance for budding writers to try their hand at storytelling. I’ll be very interested to see what they can come up with in no more than 50 words. I wish them luck.”

Entries should be sent to ask.library@derbyshire.gov.uk along with the entrant’s name and age, and a contact number or email for their school.

For more information contact ask.library@derbyshire.gov.uk

Entrants must live in Derbyshire, excluding the city of Derby.
