Precautionary work at Shipley Lake

Published: 1 October 2021

Precautionary work on the small dam at the south end of Shipley Lake is taking place today and over the weekend.

Our regular inspections of the dam have revealed some damage around 1 metre below the water line which needs to be repaired. Heavy rain is expected on Saturday and, as a precaution, water is being removed from the dam to lower the water level.

Derbyshire Constabulary and Derbyshire Fire & Rescue are supporting the work and the Nutbrook trail path, which runs past the Nutbrook café, has been closed. The café has also been advised to close as a temporary measure.

Our spokesperson said:

“With the heavy rain expected over the weekend and the damage that has been discovered in the Shipley lake dam we have decided to lower the water level and close the nearby path temporarily. Residents are asked not to use the path and to stay clear of the dam and pumping equipment whilst the work is carried out.”

Continual monitoring of the dam and water levels is underway with partners from the Local Resilience Forum supporting the response.
