More than 120 groups and individuals across the county, and dozens more in the city, are receiving one of the prestigious awards, launched earlier this year by Derbyshire’s Lord Lieutenant Elizabeth Fothergill and the High Sheriff for 2020-21 Tony Walker.

The awards were created to recognise the efforts of groups and individuals who have gone above and beyond and worked tirelessly and selflessly to help and support others during the coronavirus pandemic.

Derbyshire’s Lord Lieutenant Elizabeth Fothergill presented the team with their award.

She said:

“It was a joy to meet such upbeat, resilient and motivated people, I can see why they do such a good job.”

Anne Hayes, our Assistant Director of Public health, and the council’s community testing lead, said:

“Our community testing teams have been working hard across the county to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 by offering free tests at a number of venues.

“They have all worked tirelessly over the past year to ensure the health and wellbeing of Derbyshire residents.

“We’re delighted that the Clay Cross team have received this award to recognise their commitment to the health of Derbyshire residents - all our teams are winners in my eyes.”

Derbyshire County Council Leader Councillor Barry Lewis said:

“We are delighted to be part of these awards which recognise the work of individuals and groups that have worked tirelessly to keep our communities safe during the pandemic.

“There have been so many examples of the incredible efforts that people and organisations have gone to across Derbyshire to support communities, protect the vulnerable and keep businesses moving.”
