Holiday activities for children across Derbyshire - 60,000 sessions available

Published: 26 July 2021

Parents and carers can now find out about holiday activities available in their area during the summer school holidays.

Our website has information on activities in more than 100 different places across Derbyshire with more than 60,000 sessions. They are all free for families who claim benefit-related free school meals.

All the holiday activities are run by organisations on our behalf with the money provided by the Department for Education under the Holiday Activity and Food scheme.

Activities are available across the whole county and include sports, music workshops, outward bound team building activities, campfire cooking and many more.

Activity providers

Those providing the activities include:

Derby County Football Club Community Trust

Sessions will help young people to learn new footballing skills, as well as helping them to have fun with friends this summer.

High Peak Arts Ltd

Children will plan and develop original pieces of creative work in film, music, drama and performance, with a final event which the young people can choose to perform in or support behind the scenes.

Free activities

Find loads of information on free activities that all children and families can take part in with their children, and emotional health and wellbeing advice.

There’s also lots of healthy eating and wellbeing information as well as an exciting 30-day challenge. The challenge will encourage children and young people to set themselves a personal goal over July and August and the aim is for them to have the best possible summer holiday and record their progress.

Our Cabinet Member for Education, Councillor Alex Dale, said:

“It’s great to see so many holiday and food activities available across the county for families to take part in.

“We know that the summer holidays can be a stressful time for parents, particularly those on low incomes, which is why these schemes are all free to families on benefit related free school meals.

“I’d urge everyone to have a look at the website, and get some activities booked up for their children.”

Holiday activities providers are currently applying for grants to assist with this programme and it’s not too late for new local providers and community groups to apply for this funding to deliver a summer holiday activities and food programme.
