Cotmanhay Community Network applied for the grant. They run lots of activities in the area and wanted to help set up a group for parents and toddlers as there was lots of interest from families locally.
Local mum Rimini Hall took up the challenge to run the group and the £500 grant has paid for toys, sensory items, arts and crafts materials and changing mats.
“I’m really grateful for the support from the county council. The Action Grant has enabled us to get this group up and running and offer lots of activities. We do different things every week like messy play and painting and it’s a great place for mums to get together who may otherwise feel a bit isolated.”
Our Cabinet Member for Health and Communities Councillor Carol Hart said:
“I had the privilege of visiting this group recently and seeing the mums and children really enjoying themselves. It’s exactly the sort of thing we want our Action Grants to support. I hope that they continue to thrive.”
The Action Grant scheme supports community groups across Derbyshire with their activities. There are 2,000 grants of up to £500 to help groups fund projects and events which will benefit their local communities. There are also some larger grants of £5,000 and £10,000 for new projects which offer long-term benefits for local people and promote two or more of the Action Grant themes.
We've now awarded Action Grants totalling £578,800 to 600 groups across Derbyshire in the first 5 rounds of the scheme since it launched in May 2018.
