The event will take place on 11 November 2020 at 11am, where 6 representatives from the council will lay wreaths outside County Hall. The event is not open to the public but will be live-streamed on the council’s Facebook page.
Our Civic Chairman, Councillor Judith Twigg and the Council Leader, Councillor Barry Lewis will both lay wreaths. They will be joined by leaders from the opposition parties, a representative from the council’s senior management team, and a representative from the trade unions.
Councillor Barry Lewis said:
“It is important that we continue to mark Remembrance Day so that we recognise the sacrifice of those who paid the ultimate price for serving their country.
“We are laying wreaths outside County Hall, and we have arranged for our short ceremony to be filmed and live streamed so that people can join us from their own homes.
“I would encourage everyone to visit the Royal British Legion website to find out what they can do to support the poppy appeal, so that much needed income can still be raised to fund the vital work they carry out. If you usually buy a poppy, but won’t be visiting a shop to buy one this year please consider visiting the website and donate that way instead.”
We will follow the Remembrance Day guidelines recently published by the government.
