Councillor Griffiths, who represented the Long Eaton division on the council, died on Sunday aged 71 years old.
“I was greatly saddened to hear of the passing of Alan Griffiths and my deepest sympathies go out to his family at this very sad time.
“Alan was a dedicated councillor who had a calm and gentle way about him and was greatly respected by all his colleagues and friends at the council and in the wider community.
“He was a real community champion and passionate advocate for his area, working very hard on behalf of all the people he represented in Long Eaton.
“Since being elected to the county council in 2017 he soon made his mark and was vociferous in pushing for improvements in the Long Eaton area, as well as making everyone aware of his love of football and in particular his passion for FC Barcelona.
“His work at the county council included sitting on the improvement and scrutiny committee (people) and the regulatory-planning committee, and we are very grateful for the great contribution he made.
“His enthusiasm and positive, friendly approach will be sorely missed by us all.”
The flag at County Hall, Matlock, will be flown at half-mast until the day of Councillor Griffiths’ funeral on a date to be set.
