The Derbyshire Challenge

What this consultation is about

We are facing huge budget cuts and must find ways of saving £157m by 2018.

Reductions in Government grants, inflation and greater demands on areas of our budget for adult social care and vulnerable children mean we must rethink the way we deliver services.

It means some services will remain, some will be run differently but some will have to stop. We don’t want to cut any services but we have no choice.

We want to hear your views about one of the proposed changes to adult care services:

One of the changes we are considering is to review the young people’s housing-related support service. This service supports young people aged 18 to 24 across Derbyshire, working with them to prevent homelessness and promote independence in the future.

We are proposing:

  • to reduce the number of young people receiving the service from 294 to 148 young people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless during 2015/2016.

This a reduction to the overall budget from £1,031,367 to £172,182. However, through the engagement process with providers an immediate revised model of services has allowed in year savings of £178,000 which, together with the proposed £172,182, has enabled the continuation of the service for an additional 12 months up to 31 March 2016.

This proposal will only be for one year while services for April 2016 onwards are planned and consulted upon.

By completing the accompanying questionnaires, you can tell us your views about these proposals, and your ideas about other ways we could save money in adult care.

What else do you need to know

To help you to understand the proposals we have written a range of fact sheets which are attached to this page. You can also read the paper submitted to Cabinet on 21 January 2014, which details all the proposed changes.
