What this consultation is about
In 2014 the government extended the eligibility criteria for free nursery education places for two year olds to include the two year olds of low income working families. The impact of this extension means there is an undersupply of places in the Cotmanhay area. In order to ensure eligible children in the area benefit from a high quality nursery education place, it is proposed to build an additional classroom on the Larklands Infant and Nursery School site.
Proposal
It was proposed that the age range of Larklands Infant and Nursery School be extended from three to seven years to two to seven years, to include eligible children admitted in the term following their second birthday.
Full details of the proposal are attached to this page.
This consultation is now closed. A report on 'Capital funding to support the provision of free entitlement early years places for eligible two year olds in schools', presented to Cabinet 12 July 2016, agenda item 12, disclosed that due to such considerations as falling birth rate and staffing costs Larklands Infant and Nursery School will not proceed with the proposals.
