Budget consultation 2016/2017

Status: Results available

Opens: 23 October 2015 - Closes: 4 December 2015

The Derbyshire Challenge

What this consultation is about

We’re facing budget pressures like never before and between 2013 and 2018 we will need to have cut our budget by £157m.

Reductions in Government grants, inflation and greater demands on areas of the county council’s budget for adult social care and vulnerable children means we must rethink the way we deliver services. It means that some services will remain, some will be run differently but some will have to stop.

We don't want to cut services or raise council tax − but we've got no choice. We expect that the Government will let us increase council tax by 2%, but if we wanted a higher increase this could only be with the agreement of the people of Derbyshire in a referendum.

We are doing everything we can to cut management costs, sell off land and buildings, bring extra income in and scrutinise every penny we spend.

We wanted your views on where we should cut our budget. We used a national consultation tool called You Choose that councils can use for free.

This consultation is now closed. A report was presented to Cabinet 26 January 2016, agenda item eight.
