Anti-stigma strategy

Status: Results available

Opens: 25 April 2016 - Closes: 27 May 2016

What this consultation is about

We, with Derby City Council, North Derbyshire CCG, Hardwick CCG, Erewash CCG and Southern Derbyshire CCG are working on a Young Persons transformation plan called “Future in Mind”.

One of the aims of Future in Mind is to reduce the stigma young people face about their mental health.

Stigma means the discrimination of people, in this case because of a mental health problem. When people feel stigma they can feel isolated, ashamed, blame themselves and not want to seek help and support for their problems.

The anti-stigma strategy for young people will help to enable the emotional health and wellbeing of young people and families to improve across Derbyshire city and county.

We need to facilitate change to improve:

  • attitudes around mental health and reduce stigma
  • knowledge and understanding of mental health
  • behaviour towards people who have mental health problems.

This consultation is now closed.

Following the result of the online and face to face consultation the Derbyshire wide (including Derby City) Anti-stigma strategy has been written. This draft strategy outlines the priorities and actions to reduce stigma around mental health for young people and their families. The views from the consultation have been taken into account and added into the strategy.
