What this consultation is about
In 2014 the Government extended the eligibility criteria for free nursery education places for two year olds to include the two year olds of low income working families. In order to ensure eligible children in the area benefit from a high quality nursery education place, it is proposed to extend the existing building.
It was proposed that the age range of Aldercar Infant and Nursery School be extended from three to seven years to two to seven years to include eligible children admitted in the term following their second birthday. The school would ensure eligible two year olds are staffed on a 1:4 ratio, in line with the requirements of Ofsted. The overall responsibility of this would fall under the remit of the current nursery teacher and additional staff will be recruited.
This consultation is now closed. A report on 'Capital funding to support the provision of free entitlement early years places for eligible two year olds in schools' was presented to Cabinet 12 July 2016, agenda item 12. The project at Aldercar Infant and Nursery School started on site at the end of May 2016.
