What this consultation is about
We want to ensure there is a good mix of high quality accommodation and that people have the support they require as they get older and their needs change. In some areas we are providing this already, but we need to do more to ensure that we meet the needs of local people in years to come.
We are already investing in new developments to support our growing older population while changing some of the services we currently provide.
Some of the changes we have already made include closing some of our residential homes and replacing them in the local area with modern high quality accommodation which can support people with a wide range of needs.
As part of our plan to improve accommodation and care for older people we are proposing to close Ada Belfield home for older people on Field Lane, Belper.
The care provided by staff at Ada Belfield is of the highest quality, but the building itself does not meet the standards we provide in many of our other, more modern residential homes.
An eight week consultation has taken place on our proposals to close Ada Belfield and build a new modern care home nearby in Belper.
Our plans for the new home are still being developed and are subject to planning permission. Our intention is to build a home for 40 residents.
This consultation is now closed. A report was presented to Cabinet, 11 October 2016, agenda item 12.
