Yangpu District, Shanghai, China

In 2006 we entered into a partnership agreement with Yangpu District in Shanghai. We signed a memorandum of understanding with Yangpu Education Bureau to facilitate educational partnerships between our schools and communities.

MOU signing

We were awarded three years of funding from HSBC and The British Council to support the partnership developments.

The Derbyshire Schools that have embarked on the 'Links with China Project' are as follows:

  1. Aldercar Community Language College

  2. Anthony Gell School

  3. Bennerley School

  4. Ecclesbourne School

  5. Eckington School

  6. Gamesely Early Excellence Centre

  7. Glossopdale School

  8. Heanor Gate Science College

  9. Highfields Performing Arts School

  10. New Mills School

  11. St Philip Howard School

  12. Stubbin Wood Special School

Preliminary visits to Yangpu were funded by the British Council and the co-ordinating Derbyshire teachers met with their counterparts to discuss project ideas.

The schools received funding to develop joint curriculum projects and to facilitate student exchanges.

Easter 2008 saw 42 Derbyshire students from Ecclesbourne School and Heaner Gate School visit their partner schools in Shanghai to work on joint curriculum projects with pupils from their partner schools and to gain invaluable real life experience in China.
