About Scotland Nurseries

Situated at nearly 100ft above sea level just above Tansley Village, Matlock and set in 50 acres of beautiful Derbyshire countryside. Established as a nursery some 250 years ago, James Smith (Scotland Nurseries) has supplied trees, shrubs, rhododendrons and heathers to customers all over the country, many of the Royal gardens are stocked with plants from our nursery. Our Highlands Cafe & Restaurant is set in relaxed, comfortable surroundings with views overlooking the woodland opposite, it is a lovely place to enjoy a snack, meal or coffee and cake. We are open all day with a varied breakfast choice served from 9:00 until 11:00 am offering full English breakfasts, mini breakfasts, eggs benedict, bacon and sausage sandwiches, & more! Lunches are served from 11:30 and we attempt to cater to everyone's tastes with dishes including meats, fish, vegetarian & gluten free options, pies and quiche. Lighter options include soup, paninis, sandwiches and jacket potatoes. We are also fully licensed and offer a selection of wine, lager, bitter and local ales available all day Monday to Saturday and from 12:00 onwards on a Sunday. We also have many tempting sweet options with cakes, tray bakes, and tea breads adorning our cake counter to enjoy with a cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Our delicious scones are made fresh in our bakery every morning and include fruit, cherry and almond, or cheese, and are piled up high and gone before the day is out!

Incorporate, where appropriate for the dish, pulses, including lentils or beans in dishes like soups, stews, curries, stir fries and rice. Offer wholemeal or wheat germ bread, pitta bread, flatbreads, naan, chappatis, pizza base etc. Use or offer wholegrain pasta. Use or offer brown rice.
