Glossop Action for Local Older People (GALOP)
We are the forum for people aged 50+ who live in Glossop and surrounding districts, including Hayfield, Padfield, Simmondley and Tintwistle. We work with our members to tackle issues that they feel are important.
We had a very successful 'Feel Good - Look Good' Health and Wellbeing event which was attended by nearly 100 people. It included an easy exercise workshop, advice from a dietician and chiropodist together with an interactive Tai Chi demonstration.
We were influential in securing an improvement in the timings of a local Saturday bus service and had representation on the Glossop LIFT project. The project reviewed and developed the use of space at the new Primary Care Centre in Glossop.
We have organised a number of enjoyable trips including one to Buxton Dome and the Houses of Parliament.
What we're doing
Our membership continues to grow and we now have in excess of 130 members.
We work with our members to tackle issues such as local bus services, health service improvements and other topics relevant to the local community. We also hold regular Open Forum meetings with excellent speakers with many varied topics.
Meetings and Events
Our Open Forum meetings are held quarterly. They are on a Tuesday at Bradbury Community House. Light refreshments are provided with donations gratefully received. Please see the 50+ Forum meeting and events page for times and dates.
