The charter involves:
- using a self-assessment to work towards a set of nationally agreed standards
- developing an action plan for future change
- working and consulting with staff to implement change and improvement
There are 3 levels which organisations can work towards. Some, or all, will be relevant to you depending on the size and direction of your organisation.
The 3 levels are commitment, achievement and excellence.
There are no time restrictions to completing the charter and you can chose to focus on a single area to start with and then work towards the others.

It’s a simple process that involves gathering a portfolio of evidence to show that you meet the standard and you’ll also need to complete an assessment. An on site visit of your premises will also take place.
