Learning and development

Learning and development opportunities are available to all council employees.


Courses include the following:

  • Microsoft Office 'end user' learning programme

  • General skills courses for all employees

  • Courses for managers and supervisors

  • Building a sustainable council

  • Planning Ahead for retirement

  • Skills for life courses

  • Springboard women's development programme

  • Learning for you

Customer care courses include:

  • Putting People First mandatory workshops

  • Customer journey mapping

  • Reception and telephone skills

  • Dealing with aggressive people

Equality and diversity briefings are also available:

  • The Equality Act 2010

  • Public Sector Equality Duties

Employees may also be eligible to apply for qualification training at the following levels;

  • National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) at levels 2 and 3 in a variety of subjects

  • Leadership and management courses

  • Professional qualification courses

  • Post qualification courses
