Careers ambassadors

The careers ambassador scheme evolved out of the care ambassador scheme previously run jointly with Skills for Care within the adult care department and has been running for several years.

There are currently 55 ambassadors from across all our departments representing careers as diverse as…

  • social workers
  • social care workers
  • accountants
  • solicitors
  • human resources
  • business services
  • property officers
  • trading standards
  • and many more…

Careers ambassadors attend schools, colleges and job fairs giving information to students and adults on careers within the council as well as taking part in industry days and mock interviews. Ambassadors occasionally attend schools and colleges to give specific talks on subjects such as health and social care, recruitment, public services, and some have also been student mentors. The calendar of careers events document below lists the events taking place this year.

Recent recruits to the scheme are four newly qualified apprentices who will be attending schools events as 'apprentice ambassadors'.

If you are a member of staff and you can spare a few hours a year to visit local schools and attend careers and job fair events to talk about your job and career opportunities within the council you can complete and return the application form below.

If you are a teacher who would like to arrange a visit to a school or college from a careers ambassador or to take part in your careers event please contact Karen Beeson, email: karen.beeson@derbyshire.gov.uk
