High Peak Supported Employment Service

Our High Peak Supported Employment Service offers employment and training opportunities for people with a disability.

The service is funded through the Learning Disability budget, and most of our client group have a learning disability although we do consider each referral on individual merit.

If we cannot offer a service we will try to direct people to a more relevant service.

We have two office bases:

  • Main office − Chapel en le Frith (three full time employment officers)

  • Sub office − Matlock (two full time employment officers)

  • One manager covering both offices.

Each person referred to our service must be aged 18+, live in the High Peak or North Dales area and have a (learning) disability.

We will do an initial home visit to each client referred to establish eligibility.

If eligible you will be offered a place on our 'Get Ready for Work' course. You will be expected to complete the whole of the 12 sessions to be eligible for a supported employment service.

On completion of the course, you will be allocated a dedicated Employment Officer (EO) to work with.

The EO will commence a personal profile to get to know the client and find out what the person wants/expects from the world of work − i.e. job training, paid employment, voluntary work.

The EO will do a welfare benefits check to ensure all relevant benefits are being claimed and will direct anyone needing help to the appropriate service.

The next stage of the process is to start the job search. Again this could be paid work, work experience or voluntary work. We will help with CVs, application forms, interview support etc.

Once a placement is secured, we will do all necessary health and safety checks and assist with risk assessments etc.

We will learn the job alongside you and provide 1:1 job support, gradually withdrawing until you are able to complete all tasks unsupported.

Again we will advise on relevant benefits and contact any agencies already involved.

We will also provide a travel training service to help you become independent in travelling to and from the workplace.

When you become independent in work we will continue to offer support to both you and the employer and we will maintain monitoring visits.
