Best Places to Work in the Public Sector survey 2011
We've had the results of the Best Places to Work in the Public Sector Survey for 2011.
In the accreditation process, we've retained our One-to-Watch status, though with a reduced score from last year, as you can see in the related documents section. In the 2010 survey we finished 58th Best Place to Work but this year we have not been placed in the top 100.
Undertaking the survey
We asked 2913 employees (excluding school staff) to take part in the survey in October and November 2010 and 1091 of you (about 37.5 per cent) did.
We would like to thank those of you who did take part and hope that you will take part when we hold surveys in future.
We will be doing an employee survey ourselves this year in the summer which will be sent to all staff outside schools.
There were about 70 statements in the survey on different aspects of working here and employees were asked how much they agreed or disagreed with them.
So people were asked about My Manager, My Company and My Team, about Personal Growth and Fair Deal and about Leadership, Giving Something Back and Wellbeing. You can see more detail about these categories (known as workplace factors) in the related documents section.
Survey results
The survey provided us with information on employees' responses to the 70 statements. These were summaries so nobody had any idea how individual employees had answered.
You can see a chart in the related documents section which shows how positive employees were about the statements on My Manager, My Company etc.
The bigger the bar, the more positive employees were. This is broken down so you can see how many strongly agreed or strongly disagreed with each category, also available in the related documents section. These charts also show comparisons with last year's results and with the top 100 public sector employers. You can also find a summary of these responses in data format there.
Finally, managers were asked some extra questions about their working experience and you can see the results of these in the related documents section, alongside a comparison with last year's responses.
You can be sure that the results of the survey are being studied closely by officers, Elected Members and the trade unions and you should look in Workforce for news of initiatives being introduced to address the issues raised or speak to your line manager.
