Scooter SmartScooter Smart is a project aimed at providing children with the confidence and skills to use a scooter as a mode of travel, particularly as a way of encouraging scooting as an alternative to the car and as a healthier way to travel to school.
Scooter Smart is delivered as a part of a schools travel plan. Children take part in a Scooter Smart training day to introduce and develop skills to encourage them to scoot to school.
Scooter Smart has taken place in more than 90 Derbyshire schools, reaching over 10,000 pupils. The scheme is based on a successful pilot project which demonstrated the potential that travelling by scooter can have on reducing the number of car journeys made to school.
Parents and children have also reported increased confidence and road safety skills as a result of Scooter Smart and have said that they would like more opportunities to scoot to school.
As a result we have secured funding to help schools by buy scooter storage.
