Pedestrian refuges

Where a pedestrian crossing cannot be justified, a pedestrian refuge may be placed in the carriageway.

These allow pedestrians to cross the carriageway in two halves with a safe place to wait in the middle. There may be illuminated bollards at the site of the crossing.
