Part night street lighting

We're changing the way we light Derbyshire's streets at night.

We provide and maintain around 89,000 street lights across Derbyshire and we recently consulted on our proposal to switch off around 40,000 street lights between midnight and 5.30am and permanently turning off around 900 others.

Of the 842 responses received, more than 60 per cent were in favour of the plans.

It's expected to take up to four years to introduce the changes across the county. We've drawn up a timetable for 2012/13 which includes an opportunity for residents to comment on the detailed proposal in each parish or local area.

Tell us your views

Once a scheme specific risk assessment has been carried out a drawing will be prepared indicating which lights we propose to switch off or convert to part nigh operation.

These plans can then be viewed online and we will make paper copies, together with comment forms, available to local communities through libraries, post offices, community shops and parish, town, district or borough council offices.

We will also write to homes in each area letting you know when and where you can see the plans and how you can give us your comments.
