Transport & roads
In most cases the grass verges beside roads and footways, up to the boundary wall, hedge or fence, are part of the road. It is therefore our responsibility to maintain the verges, including cutting the grass.
As far as possible we are also responsible for keeping the verges in a safe condition and clear of obstacles, for example advertising signs.
This is especially important at road junctions or accesses where clear visibility for drivers and pedestrians is essential.
Collection and removal of litter, fly tipped material, abandoned cars, etc. from the verge is the responsibility of the local district or borough council. You can find the contact details for district councils in Derbyshire in the Your Council section of the website.
