Street furniture

Street furniture can range from public seats to road signs and pedestrian guard rails.

Some street furniture such as seats are placed on the highway at the request of other public bodies such as parish, borough and district councils.

These are for public use but are owned by the public body who provided them. The owner is also responsible for the maintenance.

The placing of any street furniture within the highway must be approved by the county council and will usually be covered by a formal agreement. Before granting approval for the placing of street furniture the council will inspect the site and complete a consultation procedure.
