Winter damage schemes
As a result of the severe weather last winter which caused major deterioration to the roads the Government announced that £100 million of additional funding would be given to local authorities to assist with the repairs.
The Department for Transport (DfT) was given responsibility to distribute the money and the funding was described as exceptional, in recognition of the most prolonged period of winter weather for 30 years.
We've been given £3.669 million, which will allow us to carry out an additional 72 schemes before the end of this financial year (March 2012). This funding is in addition to the £15 million which we had already committed to spend on specific repair schemes listed in the annual Capital Programme, together with a general maintenance budget of £23 million.
The Capital Programme is a list of proposed schemes produced from information gathered during the year from inspections and surveys identifying which roads and footways are in greatest need of repair.
A list of the additional schemes that will be funded from the grant allocated by the DfT is in the related documents.
