Residents parking schemes

There are a number of residents parking schemes in place in Derbyshire.

Current schemes

Currently there are residents' parking schemes in Bakewell, Buxton, Chesterfield, Ilkeston and Long Eaton.

These schemes were introduced by us with the appropriate borough/district council being responsible for the issuing of permits.

The type of permits within each scheme varies, with details available on the relevant borough/district council's website.

New schemes

Residents parking schemes are most effective if a number of streets are included so the problem is not just moved from one street to the next.

Being part of a residents parking scheme does not guarantee a parking space, the permit allows permit holders to park when other users are not allowed to, it does not provide an individual parking space.

Residents parking schemes tend to be located in or close to town centres and are designed to prevent parking by non residents.

Residents parking schemes are not a solution in areas where the majority of parking taking place is by residents themselves.

Schemes will only be introduced if they are financially viable, i.e. they pay for themselves.

There are charges for permits in order to pay for the schemes administration, enforcement and maintenance.

Charges

The current charges for permits are:

  • Residents permit (first permit if applicable) £26 per annum

  • Second or subsequent residents permits (dependent upon scheme) £50 per annum

  • Annual visitor permit (dependent upon scheme) £10 per annum

  • Business permit (limited to one per business) £50 per annum.
