Disabled parking bays

We provide an advisory parking bay outside, or close, to the residences of disabled drivers who are registered as Blue Badge holders and who have no off-street parking available and are often prevented from parking on the road due to other parked vehicles.

Confirmation of the drivers disabilities and difficulties in walking are sought from health professionals. The regularity of the driver being unable to park directly outside or very close to their home is determined by officers from the council.

If there are already restrictions on waiting, such as yellow lines, then a parking bay will not be provided.

If a parking bay (usually 5.5 to 6m long) would extend across a neighbours frontage, which often happens in streets fronted by terraced housing, written confirmation from the neighbours accepting the parking bay is required.

The parking bay carries no legal backing so cannot be enforced, it is currently provided free of charge, and is removed when no longer required.

Applicants for a marking should contact their local Social Care office, or contact Call Derbyshire on 08456 058 058 for more details.
