Before any skip can be placed on the public highway, the skip provider must apply to the us for a permit.
- A permit will only be issued to the skip owner.
- If you wish to place a skip on the highway you should contact a skip provider of your choice. Details can usually be found in the Yellow Pages under ‘Skip Hire’.
- From the 1 April 2006 skip owners have been required to sign, date and return a copy of Derbyshire County Council's standard conditions before permission can be given to place any skips on the highway.
- Applications must be made by the skip owner and returned by post to:

- An application form must be completed and returned not less than seven working days before it is intended to place the skip on A or B class roads and not less than three working days before it is intended to place the skip on all other roads.
- The skip must not be placed on the highway until written permission has been given. Failure to observe this statutory requirement is an offence and the skip may be removed without notice. Any skip found on the highway without a permit will incur a cost of £50 to cover administration fees.
- There is a charge for all applications to place skips on the highway.
- The skip owner must provide evidence of Public Liability Insurance cover of not less than £5,000,000 before any skip can be placed on the highway.

making skips visible to traffic
care and disposal of skip contents
lighting and guarding of skips
